Dear members — A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, to be a geek was to be a pariah. But in recent years, PlayStation turned gaming into a socially acceptable hobby, superheroes leapt off the comic page and onto the silver screen, and manga became a major publishing triumph. On Merseyside, it’s no different. Comic Con Liverpool is one of the biggest events of its kind in Europe, attracting tens of thousands twice a year. To find out if Liverpool is particularly attuned to geek culture, we sent nerd-in-recovery Laurence around the city’s comic book shops and to Comic Con itself to investigate.
