Interesting, well-researched piece, thanks. Nice to dig below the headlines, as it were. One thing though: how did ‘gotten’ slip through the editorial process? 😏

No doubt the intention of the author of this well-written piece was to soothe the nervousness thousands of average law-abiding inhabitants of this city are harbouring over knife and other violent crimes. Elementarily, the rate of most if not all occurrences of violence especially those involving weapons in any country reflects the social-economic failings of the administration of that country. Having listened to all the rhetorical objectives and sound bites from both main parties in the last few years, it's easy to come to the conclusion that what we have running around in the parliamentary corridors of power was a flock of headless chickens.

Excellent article Abi. Kind of puts things into perspective and it’s good to see we’re not the worst city, although any form of knife crime is dreadful. It’s also great to see there are still people who are committed to helping prevent kids getting into this awful gang culture. I’m really interested in KnifeSavers so I’ve downloaded the app. You never know when it may be useful.

Great photo. It’s hard to make a photograph like that interesting and you did it. If you decide to give up the writing a new future beckons.

Regarding Alan saying that the Anfield boxing club doesn't bother with the " nonsense" of having separate male and female divisions; I trust he'll not be saying that once the pupils reach puberty. It would be dangerous to pit a post pubsecent boy against a girl, or even a fully mature woman even when all other things are equal. That is the reason that British boxing champion, Nicola Adams, is firmly against males playing in women's boxing

Knifesavers getting help or funding from the council or is it a separate initiative?

The past participle of the verb to get is “got”, not “gotten”!
