The suggestion of "Bravermans Barge" being used to house asylum seekers shows the ugly neo Nazi frenzy being stirred up by Braverman and Patel which culminated in the Suites Hotel disgrace. Do the good folk of Kirkby think that crime only started in 2022 and there was no crimes in their spotless haven before that date? Come off it.

We are entering an ugly era where humanity, respect for others less fortunate is derided as "woke" The far right has two champions for their filth in Gross Bigotry News and Talk (Hate) TV, the latter being additionally relayed by Liverpool TV . Which means if KKK McKenzie his venomous rant on TalkTV we'll have this unmentionable on our local screens

Today asylum seekers, tomorrow next, the homeless? The hard right ALWAYS needs a SCAPEGOAT .

The Suites Hotel disgrace sets the reputation of Merseyside clock back to May 1985 SHAMEFUL.

They've got to be accommodated somewhere. It may be either this or Pontins...

Seriously though, some of the rhetoric around this issue is foul. Neo Nazis?? Get a grip!! The irony of throwing that insult while using the term dog-whistle politics is entirely missed.

Refugees fleeing to countries neighbouring Syria are housed in tents. Large numbers of people arriving all at once presents a massive challenge for any country.

There is also a legitimate question to answer as to why any refugee would flee France via dangerous dinghy journey. Is France dangerous? Those that don't see a problem with this seem mostly just to believe anyone should be able to arrive in the UK. Would they want to put that to the electorate?...

Also ignored is the economic impact on communities by shutting down hotels. Great for the crappy hotel chains taking part, but for towns that rely on visitors not so. Which is "inflammatory"? Temporary accommodation, or putting people out of work?

Better the money is in Bibby's pockets than Brittania's.

But it should be parked in Salford Quays. At least then it would be located where there are facilities, and where it will be surrounded by a supportive population at the BBC etc.

The Neo Nazis are those threatening violence against refugees , like the Suites Hotel mob. They bandy words like "invasion" and "treason" and abuse the decent people who protested against racism.. It is the GOVERNMENTs job to provide habitable homes for refugees and not that of anti racism protestors. Suella Braverman is behaving like the BNP, GBNews and TalkTV in WHIPPING UP the hate brigade, despicable attitude from someone who is supposed to be upholding the law Of Braverman s husband doesn't like her being comparred to the Nazis then his wife should think before she speaks.

So called ordinary people from Kirkby and any similar areas lose their heads when refugees or travellers arrive falsely claiming that they are plotting abuse of their children.Well a nine year old girl did die at the hands of a WHITE INDIGENOUS drug dealer who while in pursuit of a similar scumbag shot at him but the bullet hit Olivia Pratt Korbel. RIP angel. What is sickening is there is a hero worship of inadequate, lumpen and racist thugs who claim to be protecting "our children" and our "culture". Some are bored ex military who can't give up the war game and FADE AWAY This is precisely the kind of talk the Nazis used in the 1930s as Gary Lineker correctly pointed out The Ukranian refugees are being put on a pedestal while North Africans get abuse. The Asian community in the 1970s and 80s were also described as being an "invasion" by the National Front yet Mr Sunak, Ms Braverman and Ms Patel choose to seek approval of the NFs equivalent in the 2020s. Would these three deport their own ancestors to Rwanda. These HUMAN BEINGS are here to stay unless racist terrorists decide totherwise and unleash barbarism. The internet is a hotbed for these vile supremacists and it's viral.

It is a bit late to debate on the right and wrong ways to accommodate refugees that are already here. The most important question we should asking is that why so many people from so many previously pretty well-off countries, in less than two decades, have become refugees with some of them paying thousands of dollars/euros/pounds to traffickers to get them into this country and others in Europe? Like in all crime stories, to identify the real villains one has to start reading from the very beginning especially those involving geopolitics. The vast majority of the refugees we have seen were the creation of those villains, the instigators of umpteen conflicts between countries and peoples over the last twenty years and it was the same self-proclaimed 'giver of democracy and freedom' hegemonic super power that left us with this legacy of foreign refugees.

It's all well and good for the usual rentagobs such as Steve Dontbotherim (always quiet on anything important) and the far-left Gibbons (prison ship, really?) to waffle on and moan about poor migrants but they never offer anything constructive, like how to deal with the problem. Let's face it, we can't house British citizens properly so we are never going to be able to house ever-increasing numbers of

illegal migrants & boat-people. So stop moaning about Bibby.

Totally agree about night buses , or even merseyrail . Is not mayor steve in charge of merseytravel? But then its a lot more difficult to correct oublic transport than to get on his high horse about bibby than fux the useless transport system in merseyside

why is it ok for North Sea Workers to be housed in these barges yet they are not suitable for asylum seekers? Am I missing something here or are the lives of Oli workers less important than that of asylum seekers?

Good article. Somebody compared it to something you would get in the Echo, which is unfair. For a start you wouldn't get the opportunity to comment like we do here, unless you are chosen by the editor for the infamous Echo letters page!

As an ex-Merchant Navy Deck Officer of 10 years and also an ex-employee of Bibby Marine (they bought the company I worked for, I left after a year or so with them, a couple of years later the company went bust!). I am dismayed at this whole saga. A punitive immigration and asylum system constantly at odds with the needs of poor people coming to the UK and that of the country as whole. These accommodation barges were never designed for, or are equipped for long term habitation. I can only imagine the extent of mental health issues which will be experienced by people forced to live aboard for months and possibly more than a year. Bibby Marine should not be profiteering from people's misery.

Simple solution. Since this is "cheaper than placing asylum seekers in hotels" ...

Moor the vessel further OFFSHORE ["out of sight, out of mind"] -- too far to swim to shore

THEN fill it with convicted offenders from our overcrowded PRISONS

and allocate the ('secure accommodation' aka prison cells) to asylum seekers, as the Food & Lodging at any of HMs hot ... sorry, Prisons ... is guaranteed better than on the 'prison ship' provided by Bibby ...

On a lighter note, but a disappointing one when Liverpool wants to showcase the city as a visitor attraction the public transport operators decide to spoil the Eurovision party by refusing to run late night buses for the visitors Another abdication by Arriva Stagecoach and Merseytravel who don't want to cater for a 24 hour economy in the city I hope Mayor Rotheram doesn't renege on his plan for London: style public transport although it will be too late for Eurovision, whose revellers will be left to walk home on unsafe streets or join a queue for rip off taxis. Liverpool's rivals had all night buses at weekends, something which was overlooked by Merseytravel in their usual shambolic manner. No one will ever run a late night prestige event in Liverpool again unless the public transport situation is vastly improved
