Interesting and disturbing article as I am a Unite Union Member. Makes you wonder where the missing millions are, was it just overspending on materials or was some of the money funnelled away. The fact they are all linked to Joe Anderson definitely makes it even more questionable. That’s hard earned union membership payments we’re talking about. Let’s hope the investigation uncovers the truth.
Both the article and the podcast are excellent. I have always voted labour nationally but I wouldn't allow the present local Labour Party to run the city if I had my way, they are a liability.
With a direct population of 1.5 million, with a similar overall wider “metro” population to Greater Manchester, and billions of Pounds generated annually through commercial and industrial business that employs said people (and people from the neighbouring city region), it has bemused me as to why the Labour council has persistently pushed the notion of Liverpool as a “small city”.
Reading that quote from Tortoise above, I do wonder. “Of course we do business together, we’re but a wee village!”
Er no. There is plenty of choice of where to spend your cash. And at one point in the not so distant past you didn’t need to be half as careful to make sure there wasn’t someone dodgy in the background.
It’s testament to how awful for the city the Echo has become that people at large haven’t already booted out every Labour councillor that was up for election last time.
When a hotel that cost £100 million to build and one year later was valued at less than a third of that amount, it would be an understatement of the years for anyone to say " apparently a great deal of money had been wasted" to describe discrepancies on that scale. I am sure anyone of us could come up with at least half a dozen more suitable terms to name that debacle.
