So today’s feature, which is about Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), might seem like something of a departure. But this is a much bigger issue than many realise. According to one researcher at Liverpool John Moores University, PFAS — which have been found in alarmingly high quantities in the Mersey — are “the greatest chemical threat facing humankind in the 21st century”. Which is absolutely the sort of thing you want to learn on a Wednesday morning.
