It’s amazing how the Dowd family have been able to dominate the local politics and how many of the relatives are on the gravy train with a negative effect on the local area , Having come into contact with them on a certain issue as a resident the pure lie’s that come out of a certain person’s mouth it is astonishing . The Post really should start a real investigation journalists piece on this lot they really are having a negative on Bootle trying to turn the corner because it’s deterioration is becoming more stark with them and Mayer , I really wasn’t aware as a local resident how bad these individuals are until this issue arose which local residents in my area have been failed by on a massive scale

Fascinating piece on Sefton's politics, as a life-long Bootle resident I find the current council to be appalling and complicit in the decline of once thriving areas like Bootle, Maghull, Seaforth, Litherland, Netherton among others. My own ward of Derby is completely overlooked by serving and prospective councillors. Even with an election round the corner, we so far haven't received a leaflet for any candidate through our door, and never has someone dared knock to campaign.

Being a student and wanting to go into local politics myself in the future, I find the dominating leadership and issues continuing to plague Sefton Council (and Liverpool for that matter) to be disheartening. I'm hoping if these rebelling councillors are successful, a new united (cross-council) party could emerge to challenge local Labour and bring an end to the 'Bootle Mafia' and corruption prevalent in our region.

Councillors need to put our communities, their needs and their prosperity first.

Looked for a Journalist's "tag" or name, can't see one ... reply to article about Independents in Sefton and elsewhere. [deep breath]

I'm a local Author (published both for Adults & for Children).

I recently completed one I've been working on for a few years, and I believe it's topical/relevant.

Imagine: after one good "kicking" too many from a hostile Whitehall Government Liverpool decides to secede from the (Dis-)United Kingdom and set up as the Free Independent Republic of Merseyside ,,, under the leadership of the Radical Regionalist party, Liverpool succeeds while the rest of the country goes bankrupt ... The book [provisional title: "Home Rules"] is intended as a humorous/satirical tongue-in-cheek BUT there are ideas in it which might prove useful.

Can you put me in touch with someone either in Sefton or the Liverpool Community Independents you mentioned (I don't LIVE in Sefton ...!) Ideally I'd like to speak to BOTH groups, maybe even at the same time??
