We all know that football clubs’ fortunes fluctuate over time, no matter how well they are managed, but Everton’s shambolic failure is truly shameful.

The club spends a fortune on financial and legal experts and has only itself to blame for its breaches of the financial rules.

And its choice of financing is, at best, naive and, at worst, questionable and worrying.

I first watched Everton in 1958, when I was 11 years old. My father and my uncles must be turning in their graves, and current fans must be bemused and angry at this betrayal of trust in our once-great club.

My heart really goes out to genuine fans like you, as I know only too well what you're going through. It wasn't that long back that we Liverpool fans found ourselves almost staring down the same gun barrell. Thankfully, we managed to get out the room before the trap door sprung open, but for you, it looks very much like you're stumbling from one nightmae to another. 777 are everything the report said and more, they owe money out left ,right and centre, and are being pursued by quite a few "less than happy" people, not just football fans, but various companies who are owed money, a couple of National Legal organisations, and, as stated in the report, an Airline company who are still owed more than a few quid for the leases on aeroplanes for the failed budget Airline. Amidst all this, you do wonder just what the actual hell the Premier League is doing to try and ensure that none of this stains the game, but then you look back over the years at some of the owners of other Premier League Clubs, and it seems that the "Fit & Proper Owner" Test seems to consist of something like being asked "You're not in any way disreputable are you?" "Nooooo, Not in the very least, I give you my word as a businessman, that I am totally above board" "Very well, sign here and the club's yours"
