‘Comradely’ disagreements or a ‘total mess’? Inside Merseyside Labour as war rages in the Middle East
We spoke to 12 local Labour figures about the war in Gaza, as one says: 'I don’t recognise the party I put my life into'
Dear members — “It’s a total f***ing mess” were the words of one local Labour official to us this week describing the fallout from the war in Gaza, which has caused huge divisions in the party. In her first piece for The Post, Lisa has spoken to a dozen Labour members and politicians around Liverpool, the sum total of which is a picture of a party at war with itself. In the words of one, a mentality of “you’re with us or you’re against us” has set in. But while other councils around the country have seen a number of senior Labour figures step down over the row — perhaps most notably in Burnley — so far Liverpool’s Labour Party hasn’t seen the same. But will that be the case for much longer? Today’s edition digs into that question.
But first, your Post briefing — including a record-breaking hit from The Beatles and divisions among Wirral’s Conservatives.
