Steve Rotherham would rather spend his time complaining about his ( and the Region's ) poor treatment at the hands of others (usually the government), rather than coming up with ambitious plans for the Region. He should be insisting that Liverpool John Lennon Airport be included in any new rail infrastructure resulting from the £12bn made available by the government. He should also be fighting for increased capacity at Lime Street station, and use of the Wapping tunnel. His idea of 3 new stations on lines not even served by Mersey rail is pure electioneering propaganda. We need positive, ambitious proposals, not words of defeatism.

Terrible as it is, I'm less concerned with passenger links to the airport than the lack of freight lines from the docks at Seaforth and the threat to build a road through Rimrose Valley so we can enjoy more juggernauts thundering past our homes.

Disappointing on the face of it, but speed is really not the issue we should be focussing on. What we need is reliability. So extra lines and capacity and new(er) trains so that you’ve a decent chance of getting from A to B in the advertised time would be far more valuable than (say) a headline 25 minute figure.

As per usual Liverpool gets the “rusty sword” Burnham is on the tv as often as Coronation Street, complaining that Manchester needs this Manchester needs that how many times have we seen Rotherham putting Liverpool up for anything, mind we have heard from him lately, putting himself forward for Mayor, if we are to compete with Manchester/Leeds we need to use our talents and note be shy about it! We our a great city with great people, let’s shout it out loud!

Every time the railway topic comes up, Steve always seems to be happy to go for the easy option of extending the network, where it near enough exists (the proposed St James Station to be reopened for the Baltic Triangle) very neatly sidestepping the issue of extending the line towards the airport. However, all is not lost, and we need not worry, because if/when we see the new "glider bus" in operation, we'll not only be able to access JLA much easier, but will also be ablle to get to Anfield & Bramley Apple Dock much easier as well. I'm tempted to wonder just what exactly lies at the root of his reluctance? Is it a fear of looking like a fool or a liar by promising something it then transpires he's incapable of delivering, or is it his inability to think too far ahead? Because he always seems to looking for short-term solutions to long term problems. I read one report about extending the railway in which he said it was extremely difficult, (nigh on impossible) due to the fact that there are existing buildings and utilities on the proposed route. So that's that then, I'm left wondering, in the light of this "Earth Shattering revelation, should we maybe consider moving Liverpool Airport to somewhere more rural ?

JLA - our city airport - needs fast connectivity to the City. No.1 priority.

Wapping infrastructure project needs pushing. A don't have confidence in Rotherham - Morris describing him as a " patsy " knows him better than I do. The Mersey Barrage - his pet project - is imo a non starter and will waste Rotherham's time and effort.
