Dear readers — We open today’s newsletter with an apology to Tranmere superfan (and designer of the Tranmere 22/23 away kit) Jack Walton, who opened our piece at the weekend, by our Jack Walton, describing the unseemly breakdown in the relationship between the club’s owners and its supporters Trust, and must have got a very nasty shock…

Alas, there’s a new Jack Walton on this particular block: the block of having an interest in Tranmere Rovers Football Club. Jack’s piece inspired a huge response from Tranmere supporters online, and a feisty one from the club’s co-owner Nicola Palios, who said she was “deeply disappointed” in us.

Welcome to Tranmere Rovers, a football club at war with its fans

Some 400 people signed up to read it, which means a little lively corner of the Estadio del Post is now dedicated to the Tranmere faithful. We welcome you with open arms, Super Whites, and hope some day soon you will join our 2,000 paying members for smoked salmon sandwiches in the executive booths.

Now on with today’s briefing, which is like an M&S cheese board made out of news: relatively sparse in quantity but unquestionably creamy.
