The Post Presents
Total StrangerThe Unseen Photographs of Pete Burns
and Dead or Alive — 1978–1983
Bold Street, Liverpool
“Pete Burns wasn’t nice, kind, or fair. But he was unforgettable.”
Before the fame, there was a different Liverpool — more experimental, more chaotic, and full of creative energy. Photographer Francesco Mellina lived and worked at the heart of it: the clubs, the characters, and the scene that shaped a generation.
His rare black-and-white images capture Pete Burns and Dead or Alive in their earliest years — long before the world knew who they were. Now, for the first time, Francesco brings these photographs out into the open.
In an intimate evening at Café Tabac — the very place where much of it unfolded — he joins Melissa Blease for a live conversation revisiting the world around those images: the people, the places, and the chaotic creative energy that made them possible.
There will be space for audience questions, and if you were there, your own memories too.
