Apart from his link with that newspaper there are a lot more reasons to distrust him. From his shelving of practically every promise he made when he became Labour leader to his shameful acceptance that Israel had the right to cut off power and water in Gaza, then having the brass neck to try to gaslight the public into thinking that he hadn't said that at all. He is a snake. Somebody said when he became leader of the party that he is an establishment stooge. He is certainly doing a very good impression of one.

Kim Johnson will not be boycotting the party that handed over money to the Sun newspaper - her bread is well buttered - if she stood as independent - she would lose that £91K a year plus all the other tasty bits of money offered to these Judas figures.

If Angela Rayner appeared topless in the Sun - people would still vote Labour here.

When the city of Liverpool returns Labour once again - let's remember it was Labour who killed off the chances of Justice for the 97. They put the last few nails in the coffin even though Blair had a vast majority to make sure a public inquiry took place with legal punishment for those found to be negligent. The cover up could have been exposed - and that cover up went deep. Establishment does not infiltrate campaigns for justice - it leads them from the top. We got blindsided. We got played.

No justice for the 97 or survivors - Labour went to war with Iraq instead and people here are still dumb enough to continue voting for them.

Not being a politician - I can say that.

This is the essence of Starmer. He cares only about power. He'll say and do whatever it takes to get it. He cannot be trusted and this is why it's not possible to vote for his corruption of the Labour Party.

It's a bit rich MP Kim Johnson criticizing the ball-less leader of her party as though she is a paragon of virtue and integrity!

I am aware that Johnson was contacted several years ago by a tenant of The Big Help ( BH) charity raising concerns about their chief executive and former Labour councillor Peter Mitchell's service failures to Big Help vulnerable tenants who were accommodated in sub-standard accommodation with no support, resulting in at least 3 suicides of these tenants in the BH's first 18 months of operating their housing service.

Johnson expressed shock and concern and claimed not to be aware of The Big Help.

Yet only 2 years later there she was hosting a 'Windrush' event which was being sponsored by yours truly: The Big Help!

Career politicians like Johnson sicken me! Especially those who use the 'Black card/ race politics to get where they are!

As for Keir Starmer, of course he would contribute to that toilet paper The Sun! He doesn't have any integrity let alone a conscience!

If only the good people of this city were not so easily led or apathetic that they continue to vote for the corrupt racist Labour party!

Starmer can go after votes from readers of the SCUM or he can pursue votes from decent people. No evidence, so far, that he’s getting many votes from the latter and so he is going after the SCUM fans. It says everything about his destruction of the party. He’s a Tory. I’ll probably vote for Kim because she’s a decent MP but she’s swimming upstream in Starmer’s Labour Party.

Oh grow up woman, stop being so petty minded and hateful. Sun readers are no different from anyone else.

I am not only grown up but also grown old. The people who produce that rag are scum. They are unprincipled and exploitative.

Expand full comment

The Sun is a rag and the people of Liverpool will never, ever, forget the lies it spread about the Liverpool fans who died, or were injured, in the collapse at the Hillsborough stadium, which was entirely down to bad policing. We do not forget. We do not forgive. Quite apart from that, when I last saw evidence of its “journalism” it exploited women, which really pisses me off.

It is not your place to decide what others can or can't read, nor to infer that those who choose to read it are scum.

I do not decide. I comment. It’s allowed. And I don’t imply that they are scum. Those who produce the S*n, however, are.

That means “fans of the SCUM”, not the readers, which was perfectly evident since I had referred to the rag of a newspaper as “The Scum” earlier. Sounds like you’re defending it.

Can anyone tell me what the Labour Party has ever done for Liverpool? It wasn’t Labour which initiated the Hillsborough investigation although Burnham jumped on the back of it. I remember him being booed at Anfield due to Labour’s lack of interest.

Now that Rishi Sunak and the Tory party are dead-men walking, we should be worry about what will be waiting for the country as everyone knows by now, Keir Starmer is modelling himself and the Labour party in the image of Tony Blair and New Labour and looking at his half-hearted effort on bring out his party's mostly unrealistic 'manifesto', he looked like a man who has got his mind on other things as Tony Blair did after he won a landslide election in 1997 and that was 'war'. For those with short memory, Blair quickly got his teeth into the first Iraq war in 1998, in Kosovo in 1999, the 'intervention' war in Sierra Leon in 2001 and who can forget Afghanistan when Blair the snake-oil salesman dressed up in combat clothing in a photo-shoot at Kabul airport? Seeing himself as Washington's head attack dog and keen to carry on with his blood-spilling spree, he had to make up a lie in order to start another war in Iraq in 2003 which made him a war criminal in the eyes of the world.

Listening to Keir Starmer's answers to question put to him on waging wars and his willingness to press the nuclear button, there is little doubt underneath the fellow's air-headedness he will be trying to out-do his hero once he got the keys to Downing Street. But this is not 1997 and today's world is a vastly different place. For the sake of the people of this country, I sincerely hope Sir Keir is not as stupid as he looked.

This is Starmer showing that his time spent as a pupil of both Blair & "Lord Mandleson of Rio*" . Like all politicians, he says what he wants (or expects) you to hear. First thing that struck me was his statement that he won't go aywhere near the Wapping Liar WHILE HE'S CAMPAIGNING (for leader). Obviously, as soon as he became leader, he & his PR Team would have been straight on the phone to everyone, to arrange a "Schmoozing session." Even Carl Ryan off these pages, if he thought it was worthwhile! He's the very epitome of a chameleon, he'll absorb the background and look exactly the same as his surroundings.

*That quote was once uttered in the commons during one of Blair's stints as PM, (I think it was actually a Labour Backbencher) when "Mandy" was Tone's top man in No10. The MP in No10, he was reprimanded by the then speaker and told to withdraw his jibe, he refused, and was suspended for a few days

One for every occasion, just like Nigel "make mine a milkshake" Farago (so named as he utters a farago of shite whenever he speaks in public)

I hear Starmer has just declared that working people are only those that have no savings and rely on the state, they shall be the ones protected from tax rises. Farago does sometimes tell the truth, which can't be said for many.

Regularly holding the party conference in Liverpool is a far more important statement in favour of our city.

Depends who’s there, really, and what they’re saying, doesn’t it?

Isn't it time those self-publicising politicos and others got over themselves and forgot about the Sun. Nobody makes you buy it, nobody makes you read it. The rest of the country, including politicians are free to make their own choices. Starmer, as leader of the opposition has perfectly valid reasons to utilise the newspaper to get his message across, it's still a major national publication.

I have to say that I’m not that familiar with what she’s been doing recently although I’ve seen her standing on the side of the angels in parliament on important issues.

Having taken a long time to decide to join the Labour Party I was horrified to find that my constituency was dominated and manipulated by a bunch of right wing bullies, and having had a certain minute thug leaping at me over tables, waving his tiny little arms at me (again), I finally decided that it wasn’t worth my time.

I think there is a case for Keir Starmer advertising in that paper. In my opinion a lot of people get their ‘knowledge‘ and opinions from the media, the vast majority of which is right wing and prints whatever it likes whether true or not, and this has been evident in the election so far. So setting out Labour’s intentions in the right wing papers may be the only way they can sway the votes.

It’s all very well saying Starmer only wants power, but if people want a change of Government from the shower currently in power our best chance is for Labour get elected.
