Lovely, mischievous, compelling writing. Brilliant that The Post has space for pieces that are not only timely and topical, but have a unique and memorable voice. Love it!

I love the idea of Marksies having an open space. We need more places just to linger, read a book, relax and feel safe and refreshed, Why don't we look at other successful cities, see what they do and adapt? Vancouver, Melbourne, Singapore

Really enjoyed that article! Very interesting with good humour thrown in. Something really does need doing with Williamson Sq. Maybe, just maybe, M&S vacating the area maybe that catalyst. Fingers crossed 🤞

The M&S move is interesting to me. Mainly because in 2003/4 I worked in a bar opposite the architectural offices that were planning/designing Liverpool One. Lovely people who on a Friday after work could demolish between them nearly a keg of San Miguel. The boss from London of the firm was up here alot and enjoyed his steak and glass of red of a lunchtime. They would discuss the mystical future of L1. One or some of these people told us that M&S was banned from moving to the estate. Either because John Lewis was to be flagship and that would be close competition, or because the council wanted to make sure the BID area as it is now was important and relevant.

I assumed that this was a deal for a set period (10 years maybe which makes sense for 2022) so now they can, they are moving.

With Flannels, I don't blame them for moving, and it is happening more often, Tussuti , and Dr.Martins gone to Paradise Street. It is surprising how may people say 'oh we're getting a flannels' rather than 'we are getting a bigger flannels'. I do wonder how many security guards they will need. At the moment you get let in. Drinks are left in a line by the door and people shop. Exclusives gone mainstream.

In your covering email you give a link to the BBC's story about the Jung mural. I'm surprised there's no reference to Carl's first appearance on Mathew Street, when Liverpool One was just a bad dream (and not one dreamt by the good doctor) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathew_Street

Not sure if I'm any the wiser after all that. But maybe that's the point. They say in the film industry that nobody knows nothing. You could apply that principle to city centre experts. And the more they tout their expertise, the less convincing they become. Parrots parrot. And it sounds fine and dandy. But at no point was the brain engaged. And then they become deceased, like their reports. Of one thing I'm certain. We won't dine and club our way to prosperity and purpose. Our future is not as one great living, breathing restaurant.

Loved the point made about the shelf in the Council Offices groaning under the weight of proposals. you could probably find another room in the same building wtih reams of "Artists Impressions" which never got any further than the Echo or Daily Post, at one time, it was almost as though there was sme kind of challenge thrown out to Technical Designers "........................ (insert name of location) in Liverpool City Centre is in need of regeneration, what are your ideas? Subjects to include are Sport, Leisure and Retail"
