Maybe Peel Ports can go to their banker backers and ask for some cash to develop non road alternatives in the same way they financed their cranes and dredging at Seaforth before the necessary infrastructure was in place to cope with their destructive expansion.

As anybody who's ever tried to apply online for a ticket to any event will testify, touting is a scourge on our society. The tales of Eurovision are so familliar; people basically sitting all day in front of your computer (or maybe waiting on your Mobile phone) in the vain hope of getting a ticket, only to discover that after wasting hours doing nothing else, you've "struck out", then you immediately go on somewhere like Ticketmaster or Viagogo only to immediately see tickets for the same event (or concert) available for the venue you're after, plus everywhere else the tour happens to take in. As long as you're happy to pay way over the odds of course. Seem to remember this matter was raised in Parliament a few years ago, but was merely brushed away with a few plattitudes about how it "wasn't illegal"

Incidentally, last summer, I decided purely out of interest, to attempt to buy an Eagles Ticket for the Anfield concert, tickets hadn't long been on sale, so I clicked on the link and was informed that I was something like 300,000 in the queue. Never bothered to check back, but never heard anything more. Wonder if I'll get contacted the next time there's a gig of any kind at Anfield

I didn’t apply for a Eurovision ticket, so hopefully they won’t make me go. Tickets are a complete scam though, I had something similar recently for Who tickets at the Totally Wicked Stadium (did Ali G name it?) when the official seller was sold out immediately and Ticketmaster had them.

Wimbledon run a digital ballot that requires online registration with name and address, a maximum of two tickets per household, forbids multiple applications from the same address - using a programme to check for duplicated applications. You can only transfer the second ticket, and then they check your ID when you arrive. It's probably not wholly watertight against fraud, but they make it very hard to dupe the system.

The sentiments of those who assembled outside the Grove House hotel may be unexceptionable, but the protest is not the way to further their case.

Agreed Paul, was just trying to make the point that by comparison to Knowsley, this was a much tamer event
