Some awful smart-arse once said writing is the war against cliché. I agree, but the problem with trite sentiments is that they’re so often true. Right now, I feel the immense gravitational pull of “I’m so happy to be here” and “I can’t believe it” frame-dragging my brain into compliance, so I’m just going to roll with them.
